Social Media and Small Businesses

In my experience thus far, I have come to the realization that a lot of small businesses are not well prepared to use social media. Some small businesses including restaurants I have worked for know that there is a growing need to use social media, but many don’t know how to go about it. They arent sure which social media platforms to use or how to use them. Often times the small businesses create social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter but do not use them properly. Small businesses should use Facebook for many reasons. Fist of all it is a good way for people to know what your company is, and what services or products it provides. Putting the location of your business is also important, it allows people to “check in” and make it known to all of their friends and family where they are, intern creating interest in what exactly that location is. Small businesses do not seem to know that updating their statuses about anything from specials for the evening to events that are coming up, will help promote their company. Small businesses should spend more time figuring out how to use social media in a way that will improve their volume of business efficiently. They could do that by hiring younger generations out of college to do so :).
